This UK adhesive products plant was dedicated to supplying other plants within its group of companies. It was extremely unproductive but its status as a cost centre meant corporate management did not look too closely. But a new spotlight on profitability meant things had to change - dramatically - with 36 project areas identified for improvement within a short period of time. The news created shock-waves among this very comfortable and well-paid workforce.
Pyramid came in to turn this into a profitable operation, working with shop floor employees, supervisors and
clerical workers. We trained and coached them to become internal consultants and project facilitators, tasked with making the necessary improvements in production efficiency and quality. They completed all 36 projects in less than
12 months and two of the facilitators were asked to lead a major European business improvement team. The model was so successful Pyramid was asked to create a similar system for the development of Team Leaders the following year.
