Pyramid ODI helps a multinational tire manufacturer
Experiencing external opposition to change that will secure your
business?
‘It’s not possible’, was the first response of this company’s management group. ‘Our people are against it and the
government is against it’! But without the changes under discussion, the long-term future of the business would be in jeopardy. This plant was competing for expansion capital from its parent and, without it, the business had no future. But expansion meant a change from six-day to seven-day operations and this required a complete change of mindset from the company’s own employees. It also required a change in national legislation.
Using Pyramid’s unique strategy, two teams were formed to benchmark operations in other countries and design new work patterns that would win the hearts and minds of government officials, union leaders and everyone at the plant - from senior managers to the shopfloor. In less than six months they completely redesigned shift schedules, gained the support of the 4,000+ employees, convinced the government to approve the plan and implemented the new system. The changes allowed the site to acquire new investment that added 200 extra jobs and an additional $20 million in annual sales capacity.
